The Vicksburg Historical Society plans a number of signature events such as the Harvest Festival and the Battle of Sunset Lake Revolutionary War Reenactment, as well as our popular Historic Speaker Series and new Historic Workshops which have their own pages for more detailed information. 

Listed below is a schedule of other events we hold during the year that will enhance your enjoyment and participation in the Historic Village and Historical Society, while exploring the heritage of the Vicksburg community. 


Volunteer Training

Vicksburg Depot Museum

Make history come alive as a volunteer for the Historic Village. Learn about opportunities, Village history, and take a tour of the buildings. We need people to recreate a working Village in period dress including a farmer teacher, blacksmith, conductor, print shop operator, ticket master, store clerks, and mayor. Volunteers are needed for the office, gardening, gift shop, events, collections, exhibits, tours, and more. Join us and explore how you can get involved! Barn Quilt Painting Workshop

Saturday, May 21, 12:30-4:30

Learn to draft, tape & paint your own 2'X2' pre-primed board suitable for outdoor display.  Fee $40 and class limited to 20. Register now with Hugh & Kitch Rinehart, 269-329-0481.

Hidden Vicksburg

Saturday, August 6, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Vicksburg Community Center, 101 S Main St, Vicksburg MI

In collaboration with the Vicksburg Downtown Development Authority (DDA) the Society will present a look back into hidden secrets of Vicksburg’s past, including guided tours of the upper levels of historic buildings in the downtown district. The goal of this event is to create awareness of Vicksburg’s historical contribution in Kalamazoo County, attract visitors, and as a fundraiser for the DDA’s façade improvement fund and operating support for the Historical Society. We also need your support in volunteering as building hosts and tour guides.

Annual Holiday Bake Sale

Saturday, December 3, 2016 9AM - 5PM

Vicksburg Depot Museum

Cookies, breads, cakes, pies, cupcakes, candies and many specialty items will be offered during this highly anticipated holiday fundraiser for the Vicksburg Historical Society. The popular "select your cookies" from the past few years will be back, allowing buyers to choose cookies from mixed trays in a variety of quantities. Get your holiday baked goods from some of Vicksburg’s finest bakers.

Holiday Model Train Display
Saturday, December 3 & 10, 2016 10AM - 3PM
Vicksburg Historic Village, Township Hall (yellow Building)
With over 200 feet of track, visitors will be amazed as several model trains transform the Township Hall into a miniature version of Vicksburg. Thomas the Tank Engine is making his annual appearance as well. The display is free to the public, but donations are always welcome!
